Alpujarra’s
This is a region of mountains and white villages ( pueblo blanco’s) situated between Granada city and the coast.
The Alpujarras are famous for its hams, spring water, honey. Many small farmers and artisan producers live up in the mountain villages bringing their goods into market towns like Lanjaron and Orgiva. The village of Trevélez is the highest in mainland Spain, at 1,476m. The clear mountain air is perfect for drying the delicious-tasting ham, which has its own Denominación de Origen.
Pampaneria and Capiliera are popular with tourists and there are many tour companies offering day trips from Granada city or the coast. Weaving is an ancient traditional craft and many colourful rugs can be found in the shops.
